Here's Where We Were

Wing of Hope participated at the Bird Mart at the Lancaster Host Resort
on Saturday, October 29, 2005 from 9am - 4pm.

We had brochures, Volunteer Applications, a DVD player and monitor that played birds that have been adopted via Wings of Hope. We spread the word about Wings of Hope and what we do and brought in some interest from the PA area. We had cute animal earrings, Lovebird earrings and bracelets and Cardinal earrings and bracelets for sale that were custom made by one of our volunteers. We also had tons of like-new bird magazines for only $.50 and some other very neat items. We hope that you had a chance to come out and see us!

Picture Perfect Pets (Philip & Lindy Malin) were at the Host to do a fundraiser for Wings of Hope. The Malins are very well known in Lancaster and have been taking pictures of pets for 20 years. The Malins travel to different places around the Lancaster area for people to get photographs of their pets and also to help fundraising for local businesses, clubs, and non-profit organizations.

Get a 5 X 7 picture(s) of your bird(s) taken by Picture Perfect Pets. Fee was $12 per person & Wings of Hope received a $5 donation per person.

    * This was a "drop in" event and included your choice of a few props and included a beautiful puffy clouds and blue sky background for your bird(s).

    * For an additional price and just in time for Christmas, people were able to order items directly from the Malins. They have a huge selection of items ranging from mousepads, to key chains, magnets, and night-lights. There was indeed something for everyone.

Bird Mart hosted by Castle Enterprises and the space for WOH and for Picture Perfect Pets graciously donated by Castle Enterprises.

"Parrot University Classes" and "Trick Training Workshop" free with paid admission.

Please see Castle Enterprises website for more information or to see their upcoming events.

The Friends Of the Alex Foundation are proud to announce on Saturday April 23, 2005, We will be having an afternoon with:

Dr. Irene Pepperberg, and The Alex Foundation

The Alex Foundation was established to support research on psittacine intelligence and communication. The Foundation helps provide funding for Dr. Irene Pepperberg's work with African Grey's - Alex, Griffin, and Arthur AKA ''Wart''. Dr. Pepperberg has developed training techniques that enable Grey parrots not only to produce but also comprehend and use English speech appropriately. The hope is that demonstrating that parrots are sentient beings will encourage responsible pet ownership, conservation efforts and veterinary research into psittacine diseases. Contributions to the Foundation are used to pay for veterinary bills, supplies for the birds and the research (food, vitamins, laboratory equipment), for assistance in training and testing the parrots and for supplies needed to document the research (e.g., video and audiotapes). ALL Funds from federal grants have stopped. The Foundation now runs strictly on donations.
