Fall 2005 Newsletter

I have belonged to Wings of Hope for about a year and have fostered a few birds, but fell in love with 2 of them and wound up adopting them. The first is an Indian Ringneck named Rudy that was plucked on her chest, neck, and legs due to unclean surroundings. She was silent and rarely made a sound, but as she became comfortable she started making the coolest sounds I have ever heard. It sounds like a rain forest when she gets started. She loves to come out and loves many types of foods. She is a beautiful bird that has taken some time to trust; she is a great addition to our little nest.

The second was Abra the dove who was my little handicapped bird - she was my sweetie pie!! I would type on the computer and she would sit in the sling I made to carry her around in. She loved to be wrapped and held. At night I placed her in a hammock type set up. She had a splayed leg that we could not really do anything with (we tried medicine and therapy which gave her more range of motion but threw her balance off more). She was in an adapted cage and could not perch or walk, but she was full of affection!!! She required more care than usual, but I loved taking care of her. Abra crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, May 25, 2005.

Please visit her Remembrance page.

Foster Homes always NEEDED

Wings of Hope-NJ is always in need of loving, committed families and individuals to provide foster care for our birds awaiting adoption. All that's required of a foster is you love the animal as if he or she were your own and make them available to meet prospective adopters. We will provide all necessary equipment and pay for medical care.

Nothing compares to the joy on people's faces when they meet the animal of their dreams. YOU can make a difference in the lives of these wonderful birds and everytime you make that perfect match you are reminded of why you got into rescue in the first place: to give something back. Each time you help match a displaced animal and a good family, you will know, you have done something fine, rare and lasting.

We have a particular need for especially loving rehabilitation caregivers for birds with special medical needs. We are seeking foster homes to care for birds like these as they recover.

As you can see our foster team is critical to our success. If you would like to get involved in this rewarding experience and help a wonderful bird along his or her journey, please call 732-833-7825 or email our Foster Coordinator at fostering@wingsofhope-nj.com.
